Flowerless potatoes!
« on: June 30, 2013, 18:07 »
Now my Sharpes Express pots look fine and are the most luxurious on the plot but unlike my other other earlies they are showing no sign of flowers! So what is it a problem  and if so why? They were planted first and even had cloche for protection. As there are only 6 or so it is not a disaster but as this is my first year I am puzzled!

Not all varieties have flowers.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thank you - my reliable bible " The Essential Allotment Guide" by thingy face  :tongue2: says "usually" so I had assumed that meant all varieties but not evry plant. Still that's why I'm here to learn!

Well I dug one plant and got just under a kilo of decent sized potatoes so flowers aren't the best test - it seems! I'm happy!!!

What about my Charlotte and red duke of York, should they come out now ? Some in ground and some in pots.

Yes it is. Sometimes plants just don't produce flowers, my link was for general and other information too. Sorry if it made you go  Gavin! ;)
