Crikey, it's cold out there.
« on: June 24, 2013, 22:25 »
Just been outside and thought that's a bit cold for the end of June.  Looked at the forecast and it says 8 degrees tonight!  Back out again and covered tender stuff in the garden with fleece, although I don't have enough for all the outdoor tomatoes.

Courgettes etc up at the allotment will have to take their chance.  Same temperatures tomorrow and Wednesday night.

It's a wonder we get anything to crop.

I'm having problems getting French beans to grow, ever since I put them out three weeks ago they have just sulked and half of them have been destroyed by slugs. I also direct sowed a load of both dwarf and climbing beans and none of them have germinated yet. I'm beginning to think this is going to be a rubbish year for anything tender. Next year I am going to try broad beans.

By 'eck, it's grim in Bradford  ;)

Up in Cumbria we're holding on to double figures overnight so nowt to worry about. I would think most things could cope with 8 degrees unless you have some rare exotics.

It got down as low as 7C overnight here, according to the local weather station  :( The greenhouse minimum reading was 8C!

My GH was 7.5, but everything looks happy enough. So do the outdoor toms. Mind you, being in Barnsley, I bring 'em up rough and they can handle it!
