Rust on Onions and Garlic
« on: June 24, 2013, 12:20 »
Hi all,

I just noticed the first signs of rust on my onions and garlic yesterday.  Is there anything I can do to stop it spreading?

Apparently rubbing the leaves with a gin soaked cloth helps!

A real pain, rust!

I have some on my radar onions, but so far my pink roscoff onions - my very favourite onion - are ok.

Smear vaseline on the affected leaves. It stop's the spore's blowing onto neighbouring plant's.

Thanks folks, will try the gin and the vaseline - need to keep the garlic in a while longer, there are nice sized bulbs on them but they haven't split into cloves yet.
