Perhaps a silly question here - what size crop would you expect from a strawberry plant? I'm afraid that mine are cheat ones from the garden centre  and I don't know what type they were. I only bought two but I can now see that I'm only going to get a handful of fruits from them.

I also didn't cut off the runners because I've pinned them down into pots of compost in the hope that I can get a few more plants in order to get a larger stock for next year after overwintering. Haven't checked on them in a couple of days so Ive probably got runners running out of my proverbial!

Not sure on crop size but we must have 100 plants if not a few more. All on different years and diffent stages. These all came from 18 original plants back in 2008

"Irresistible".  Half of the harvest:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They are!

I highly recommend this variety. They've just kicked in, had one 5 days ago before we went away and loads waiting today. Stacks more to come.

Irresistible

Blimey! I think my 10 strawberries (that I can currently see) might be it; am I right that propagation happens through battening the runners into pots of compost?

You won't do that again! Mine were all netted as soon as the fruit set.

Regarding propagating runners, I just let mine root direct in the soil and dig them up in the autumn. Can't be doing with faffing!

Picked a couple kilos last night, happily munching, but many more are just turning red and hope to pick more in a few days for a second batch of strawberry and champagne jam

Marshmello harvested today and loads more to come  :D  Even found a few slug nibbled ones for the chickens.  They are funny with strawberries.  Their little tongues come out and they smack and lick their beaks with bliss

Picked my first two strawberries today, a little underripe but I couldn't wait any longer.  They were delish :)

I suspect they are the ones which you "cheat" with by not growing from seed  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The plan.

Get up early, beat the rain, harvest all the strawberries.

The execution.

Got up early. Got some of the strawberries.

It was, however, worthwhile getting wet, will have to go back for the rest. In the meantime, 4 kilos to go at.

It's Bob Marley time!

Scale: the tub is just over 8" across.
