I am looking for a particular hoe
« on: June 22, 2013, 09:01 »
Hi I am looking to buy another of this type of hoe for my Son. I have never seen this type in the shops and garden centers and just wondered if anyone has any ideas where I could purchase one. It is absolutely brilliant. It belonged to my Father so it must be about 30 years old, and my Son and I fight over it LOL. Thanks. Linda

I've never seen one like that

I don't suppose a swoe would be an adequate replacement?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It looks home  made to me - is that possible, Seguinaud?

hi thanks for that, I had a look and I am afraid a swoe isn't quite what we are looking for never mind it was a long shot.

No I don't think it is home made.

No I don't think it is home made.

I suggested that because the edges I've marked don't look straight (a bit wiggly) so could be home cut and the handle seems to be fixed very near to the back edge.  Perhaps it was a hoe that was adapted.

Strangely enough, that's what Brian said when I showed him.  He said it looked hand made

Take the snap and dimensions to a fabricator and he/she should enjoy the challenge of duplicating it.  I've made quite a few 'tools' in the wee small hours in the workshop in a quiet time on night shift!

Cheers,   Tony.

I would agree it looks home made or another tool that has been adapted. an old edging tool or circular saw blade would make a good starting piece to fabricate one .

Patent it!!!!!

Think about it... The handle is in the centre of the cutting blade out of the way, so it'll not knock your veg as you hoe back and forth.

Yet with a normal hoe and swoe, you do have the curve in the handle from where it come away from the blade, but I find it's still not enough, that little 'arm' near the base I find always catches the younger / shorter plants before they grow up out of the way.

I've seen a lot of hoes in my time and definitely don't remember anything that looks like seguinaud's. I too think it was adapted.

It definitely bears a resemblance to a swoe but, as already said, looks like a home made version. It's got a wicked edge on it :D

Well, thanks every body, do you know I would never have thought that it was home made, honestly. I have a friend (Brit) who lives in the same commune and he is sooo clever I bet he will be able to make one. You are so right about it, it is absolutely brilliant that's why William and I fight over it. He is a newcomer to veggies and he is doing so well for a 27 year old I am so proud of him. You know he kept us in potatoes until April. Not bad ay! I will keep you informed and and use the forum for first point of sale when we go into production Ha Ha. Regards Linda (Confused from inner France) LOL.
