Apple variety, do you know?
« on: June 20, 2013, 14:25 »
Afternoon all, our local grocer/mini garden centre has some dwarf apple tree's at £11.99, only thing is, it does'nt say what variety it is, just says 'malus domestica'. Is there a variety that is widely used like this, i realise it's a long shot, but hey ho!!  :)
It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how i keep from going under......

we have an apple tree in our garden, it was a small recently planted  treelet when we moved in (now about 20 ft high) it grows nice big cooker / eaters, but they dont store well, even brogdale have so far been unable to determine the variety (after 3 failed attempts).

It's probably a home grown seedling, Grendel.

it was a while back now (maybe 15 years) but I seem to recall a shop label on it, but no variety - we still have a freezer full of apple in vacuum packs waiting to be used, it does excellent apple sauce with no sweetener, straight from the freezer, a few minutes microwaving (ok maybe 5) and its ready.

i wouldnt risk it, personally i would do my homework and get a variety of my choice  and suitable rootstock from a proper nursery.
