Over feeding peppers?
« on: June 19, 2013, 19:45 »
So I fed my chillies and peppers the other day after not watering them for a while, because their leaves turned upside down last time; suggesting they were being over watered. But the next day I've got upside down leaves again. They were quite dry and I felt like I was neglecting them, so I'm now thinking if it's not too much water but too much food?

I give them chilli focus once a week, but I've also got blood fish and bone in the potting mix. I know people put BFB in tomatoes potting mix and still give them tomorite when producing. I know chilli focus is an all rounder feed suitable for the plants full life, but should I lay off on its use until fruits are present or reduce the concentration?

Still trying to figure out a watering/feed routine for these guys, they're sat in a north east facing conservatory.

None of the peppers should be fed until flowers appear and then a tomato food is usually used because the NPK ratios are also perfect for peppers. And, use only the amounts and times recommended. Too much is as bad as nothing.

Peppers can suffer from overwatering as well. If anything, they prefer a regular light watering rather than occasional dousings, so do try to keep a steady schedule going or they'll sulk. Occasional misting of leaves with plain water will make more water available to them.

Cool weather or cold drafts will also cause leaf flipping so cloching them will help retain some warmth if your conservatory is a bit cool in the NE direction.

Thank you for the recommendations. I have been following the feeds instructions, but I don't think it will have factored any food that was already in the potting mix

I'll take away the feed until there are fruits developing on them, the BFB should keep them happy until then. There are buds developing on many of them so it shouldn't be too far off.
