Gooseberry are getting a mould
« on: June 18, 2013, 21:59 »
Gooseberry bushes were doing well .  Noticed a white mould on them.  Looking closer some are just rotting.   What is the problem.   Should I cut off the affected branches or just take off the bad gooseberry s. Is there anything I can feed or treat the Bush with

Have a look at mildew - poor air circulation can encourage it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Over here in Canada I can make a mix of baking soda and water and spritz it over affected areas. Also, as Yorkie says, check the air circulation as well as just how dry the plant might be.

I'm tryin the baking powder on a courgette plant at the mo.

Pick every other berry to aid air circulation and cut down any grass or weeds near by.

I used to have a mildew problem on a gooseberry that is planted under my apple tree. Thinning the branches and opening the centre of the bush cured it.

Cut off the affected growthand try and improve the air circulation now to save what you can, or as it gets warmer and more humid during the 'summer' it's likely the problem will get worse.
