Lettuce trays
« on: June 18, 2013, 20:43 »
I visited my stepdad on the weekend and he was having a go growing a few crops. He had this lush lettuce, some purple some green, so crisp and yummy  :tongue2:. I asked him how he managed to grow it so well, and it turns out he bought a 99p salad tray from Lidl (the ones for eating, not growing on) and separated and planted the individual plantlets. Within around 3 weeks he had around 12, yes 12 full size lettuces - woweee!  :nowink:

I did the same about a month ago.  Have at least 12 of different varieties all nearly ready. Mine were from morrisons, but I don't suppose they knew that!  I did it last year as well.  Bridges the gap until my baby leaves are big enough ( no greenhouse  :()

I get 50/60 plants from the Lidl "cut and come again" trays and they vary the types so at the moment I've got a deep red arrowhead, a frilly Density type and a green sort of oakleaf. Brilliant for less than 2p each!
My neighbours love me....... ::) :D
