Hi i have new allotment and going to plant few fruit trees can anyone let me know best soil to give them a good start all new to me this growing bug  :wacko:

as long as its in good heart it should be ok.make sure the root stock union is 3 or 4 inches above the ground level.
hope you have picked a dwarfing rootstock or you will have an enormous tree eventually.

Unless your soil is truly horrible clay, then the tree will quickly adapt to what you have. I always throw in some rotted manure and a handful of bonemeal to ensure it gets a good start.

If you haven't already, do check whether you are allowed to have them. Be careful also not to plant them where they will cast shade over a neighbouring plot.
