I have had a batch of eggs where only one has hatched and my lamp has broken - however I do have a broody hen would it be possable to slip the chick under her at night and do you think she would accept it :(

If she is sat on eggs there is a possibility she may accept it.  Take one egg away when you put the chick under and listen for a while for any signs of her attacking the chick.

I have used an old type of light bulb in a bedside lamp before as I didn't have a heat lamp and that worked until I got a heat lamp.

Yes, I painted a light bulb red once too when I was desperate for a bit of heat but not too much light

Thanks for that using desk lamp with 100w bulb at the moment until the new one arrives, thought the other eggs were not doing anything but one cheeped when I picked it up so there is still hope for the others.

Mine are all late, one hatched (day 22) and two today (day 23) with a couple more pipping.  Had to help one hatch this morning as the membrane had dried out despite the humidity being high enough.  Dampened it with a little cooled water from the kettle which made it pliable as it had gone really hard.  Fluffing up nicely now though.   :)
