just read something in an old book about making a nicotine spray for getting rid of aphids by boiling up 4oz. of nub ends. final mix is diluted with water.....

anyone had a go?!

No I haven't. Not only will it be toxic to the aphids, but to "good" insects and on top of that you have the fact it isn't licensed. Here's an article from the site owner on the subject:
