Given that the nearest cases to us are in Wales and Kent, I'm not panicking yet.

However, I'm keeping a close eye on the unconfirmed case in the CV postcode area and the map in general, given the change in the weather.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Judging by number of reports we've had on here, it was probably blackleg!

First thing that came to my mind as well, but I don't think it looks like blight  :nowink:

There's quite a few folk that will blame any spud disease as blight!

At least the reporters out on the farms are sending in samples of suspect plants. It just shows that even the experts sometimes find it difficult to identify blight. That is exactly why the blight watch system has been set up so that samples can be tested in the lab.

Better to send a sample in that proves negative than not send one that turns out to be blight.

Indeed - still doesn't let us know what it actually was though, and it would be interesting to find out  ;)

Another interesting thing is despite having the Smith Periods warning, it's not spreading much this year. (Hope I'm not speaking too soon). This time last year the map was a sea of big red dots, (if memory serves me correctly).

The only larger dot, (the bigger the dot, the more cases there are), is in Cornwall, and this is only larger as there are two cases in single plants.

The winds have mainly been from the NE, rather than up from the continent - so maybe it hasn't blown up from there yet

In some previous years Scotland has got into a mess first.

But I do like the idea of blaming the continent, they were responsible for the leek moth!

I'm erring on chopping it all down they are maincrop Desiree have been in 18 wks and are a good size so think I should just stick with what I have  :(

I had an email warning of suspected blight in the CV21 area on monday .

The leaves of my potatoes had began turning yellow with brown patches on them and dying ,also the foiliage was dying down also.

I sent samples from four different parts of the plot to the BPC as I registered as a scout  for them .

I'm glad to say the results came back negative , I'm wondering if I have blackleg also ? I've dug up some

plants and the spuds are ok

So you'll be responsible for the green dot that is CV21 then!
