We have had confirmed cases of blight in our area and apparently our site is prone to it. I have a speaking suspicion that the opposite plot might have it on their potatoes (hard to tell from where I am for certain) and I am worried about my tomatoes. I garden organically so spraying isn't an option for me.

IF my plants get blight will I be able to quickly harvest all the green tomatoes and use themor are the fruits unuseable? I was thinking that I could wait it out and harvest as many as I could ripe (lots are on the turn) and then if it hits I can make chutney with the rest

They will be perfectly useable but leave them for as long as possible
I cook therefore I grow

The fruits quickly get black marks on them, if they get blighted.

The ones that were green when blight strikes will not ripen, the blight marks gradually appear on them - so pick and use very quickly for chutney ;)

Just got back from the plot and blight is ripping through the potatoes.

Will be up in the morning to cut the haulms off.

There's none lately in Wales according to the Blighwatch map

Are you sure it is blight, you've seen or just the potatoes dying back with maturity?

Bah forgot the camera, will take it tomorrow.
We took off all the haulms earlier there were only 3 or 4 blighted but better to do it now me thinks.

Has anyone found blight on their tomatoes this year? I ve been checking mine and couldn't t see anything yet, but surely with all this rain it s only a matter of time. I have lots of large green ones ( ferline and Black Russian) they just need some sun to ripen. If they get blight I ll be gutted.

The UK blight map is certainly getting more "spotty," although not all the spots are red at the moment.

Once the toms get beyond the stage of being small, hard and dark green, there is every chance you can ripen them even off a blighted plant, although you need to act quickly once you are sure, and you may have to be watchful and remove those which start to internally discolour (brown), which will have already been infected.

Not an ideal situation of course, but I saved nearly all my blighted outdoor Red Alert crop last year by ripening them indoors.  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Yes, they do look blighted don't they :(

The first few pics I didn't think so, but the more I looked at them the more they looked like it, to me :(
