My CP failed as well, along with some others  :(
Luckily the spares of the 'old reliables' can take their place

It seemed odd as adjacent cucumbers and courgettes romped away.

I have quite an extensive range of Winter Squash coming on this year and they have all taken FOREVER. I'm talking 4 weeks to first leaves showing! Don't give up, they may still be in there.

That's really odd, because I had big problems getting my Uchiki Kuri to germinate this year as well, and normally I get just about 100% germination from all squash, courgette and cucumber type seeds. I sowed a whole packet of 10 seeds, had just a couple of them germinate and those seedlings were sickly and weak. I then sowed another packet of 10 seeds and in the end I've got 4 strong plants but all the rest either didn't germinate or did but produced sickly seedlings. The Crown Prince seeds were trickier than normal as well this year, with a much poorer germination rate than normal. Maybe the seeds from last year's crop weren't up to par because of last year's horrible conditions?

I finally have some nice spaghetti squash coming along. Just hope they have time to really get going now. My harlequin squash did nothing

I've had really slow and erratic germination of winter squashes, and am a bit perplexed as to why. I've got a lot on the go, but they are very small and I'm not sure that they will come to much.

A least we are not the only ones. Usually they sprout all over the place but this year it's been hard going. Some of mine are only just sending up true leaves but I am giving them a go.

Mrs G got about five away after quite a long time germinating, then they sort of went into a sulk when they were 6" tall, aomw of the leaves went like parchment and we're not sure what they're going to do next...

All mine have been fine, in fact they're about ready to go out, save for butternuts, which have just germinated after a second attempt.

I have tried 5 Uchiki Kuri with no success.  Tried chitting 3 more, again, nothing doing.  New seed too.  I will make do with 1 Summer Sun, 1 Boston, 1 Orange patty pan and a couple of
courgettes.  All these germinated fine, apart from the green courgette where I achieved a 33% success rate.  Both my yellow Jemmer courgettes came up really quickly, but the best of them snapped in a sudden gust of wind whilst hardening off.  :(.   Hoping that those that actually get to the plot this year don't get eaten by slugs.

Sometimes Uchiki Kuri has an old brown corky layer on the outside of the seed, which takes ages to break down  :(
I find they germinate better if you pick this layer off carefully so as not to damage the seed casing  :)
