Put a blindfold on my turkey ? Get it p****d or offer it a cigarette before doing the evil deed?

Could you or would you rear your own turkey for Christmas ?

There was a bit on radio 4 today about a lady who breeds heritage breed turkeys.  She said she often says to people who say they are going to fatten their own turkey for Christmas "Oh no you won't" - they are so appealing and funny it is almost impossible not to get attached to them  :D

We were taught quite young how to do it, just as how you make pasta, etc. Was just part of life.

I couldn't.  In fact i'm rapidly going off chicken since I got "the girls", & much more aware where shop bought chickens have come from, so also much more choosy.

Suppose i'm a bit of an hypocrit, will buy free range shop bought (but as i said less frequently), but couldn't do one of my girls in.

Turkeys to keep as pets were/are at the top of my Christmas list, in fact they were/are ALL I WANT FOR Christmas. So Bodger I definitely couldn't. I am getting very excited as OH reckons he might have found me a couple for the new year. Of course I shall still stop and talk to Terence down the road every morning

I think they're bog ugly but I still couldn't kill one, unless it was ill and suffering, even then I'd struggle, but then I feel guilty when I stomp on snails!

I saw a lorry load of them going off presumably to be slaughtered, that was the year I stopped eating them
