A sad sad day

its been an absolutely awful day today.

and taken me until now to be able to write this.

Mr Fox came while i was out, ive lost both my ducks and 7 chickens all in one go. 2 chickens are no where to be seen.

it was daylight, and made no difference

so RIP buttercup, primrose, treacle, cuddles, custard, crunchie, duck, cow and pavlova.

fraggle and rainbow were cowering in a nest box, Elvis was hiding behind the wheelbarrow, chicken was hiding behind the maternity block and popcorn had flown up into a tree.

im so upset

Oh Babe, that truly is awful; what a terrible thing to happen, and a big shock for you aswell.

At least he didn't get all of them, that's about the only happy thought I can think of.

Big hug for you xx

Are the others ok apart from being totally stressed out?

I think that must be just about the worst thing that can happen when you have poultry; it's so senseless.

ive had the 5 that are safe indoors and thoroughly checked them over and given them all cuddles. popcorn was a bit hesitant to go into the coop but gave them same warm mash with mealworms, sunflower seeds and raisins mixed in. they soon settled down and they have all perched. im hoping that shock or stress wont get them through the night.

and its going to be very quiet for them tomorrow.

Babe - so sorry to hear what happened. Nature can be cruel and senseless sometimes. Have you had problems with foxes before?

popcorn, rainbow and fraggle have got up this morning and seem fine, eating and drinking.

chicken and elvis however seem to be in shock, just standing and doing nothing. hopefully they will improve as the day goes on. they seem to be hunching their necks down.

any tips on how to cheer them up ?
