Freesia propogation success
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:48 »
Hello,

I bought 50 freesia bulbs and some of them had offshoots so I popped them in a bag and into the airing cupboard they went. 3 weeks later and I have 15 propagated corms. How exciting is that?! So I'm just going to pot them on and keep them inside. I've read that they might flower next year - does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,

Caroline

Not tried it with freesia Sweetpea C, but the general rule with bulbs is to keep the babies in leaf and growing for as long as possible.  This helps them bulk up to flowering size fast.

If you keep them inside and cosset them you may well get flowers next year.  I managed to get cyclamen from seed to flowering in a year  :)

My fresia flowered last year. I saved the corms and replanted them for this year. Not a glimmer as yet. Same time last year they were looking well!

Mind aren't showing yet - maybe because of the late spring?
