Not building walls for my compost heap. I still haven't. It looks a mess.

Not writing down at the time where I planted my potatoes, instead of relying on memory the next day!  I went to check my raised beds in the weekend and noticed that my potatoes coming up where I planted my parsnips! I could have sworn I planted the potatoes in the next door raised bed!

Mine was to not take proper account of how destructive a force the wind can be  In the early days, I lost a greenhouse, cloches, frames for climbing beans and whole plants that just blew away! These days, everything is battened down tight or guyed down for storm force 10  and I use wind breaks and have a 6' high hedge all round my plot :D
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

I thought I would be able to recognise the plants when I grew them last year so didn't label the pots!!

For weeks I thought I had cauliflowers promised them to all my family as so many were growing away in the allotment.

Only to find eventually they were Turnips!!  I felt like a right turnip myself!

1. Opening up a big bag of new seed compost.

2. Then ripping open a packet of turnip seed (I think) over the top of the compost, not realizing it didn't have a foil inner packet, and spraying a million tiny black seeds into my big pile of fluffy black compost.
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

Sowing vegetables in the back garden in the Spring in all the bare patches in the flower beds but failing to take into account that those bare patches will be consumed by the perennial flowers and shrubs once they get going.

Underestimating how quick pigeons can eat a row of freshly planted cabbage plants - " they will be OK for a day until I get round to netting them tomorrow" !!

I've got another one. Building a nice big 3 section compost bin at the end of my plot but not leaving any space for the local manure delivery guy to be able to dump directly onto my plot. I'll be fixing that this summer.

Visiting the allotment on friday and thinking what a great crop of blackcurrants, I'll pick them on Monday. Pigeons had other ideas :(

While sowing runner bean seeds a few years ago.. deciding that as beans are so tasty the seeds would be a bit like almond nuts, so chomping one.
All I can say is, if you try it you will regret it. For days.
Silly thing to do I know. But to err is,  daft. and its fine with peas.

I have a similar experience to gremlin.

I was sowing spring cabbage seeds outside last year. It was quite expensive seed with only about 30 seeds in the packet. I cut the foil open with the scissors and then put the foil packet down in order to grab the compost filled pot. The wind caught the packet, blowing it off the table and spread the seeds everywhere on the patio in the process. I only ever found about 15 or 16 of them!

What a wally
