flea beetle attack!

My broad bean seedlings are being chewed by flea beetle. Does anybody have any advice on how to control this pest please.

I think it is assumed that they don't do any serious harm and I leave them alone.

It's the blackfly that attack when the plants are 3 ft high when you pinch the tops of the plant off
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

Thanks Gremlin
Some of the old hands down at the allotment said the same thing. I have planted nasturtiums as a companion plant, they are supposed to pull the black fly away from the beans.

Think it's actually a weavil that does the serrated edges.  Flea Beatles make small holes anywhere on brassica leaves and similarly don't seem to do too much damage, they don't like a good soaking!

Are you sure it is flea beetle? I get flea beetle on radishes and swede - but not as yet on my Broad Beans - I get weevil damage - notches eaten out of the edges of leaves- see photo - which although you get some leaf damage has not affected my crop that badly in previous years.

I had a tray of salad growig last year and took it out of the greenhouse on a sunny day only to come back a few hours later to find it covered in flea beetles the salad crops never recovered dispite me squishing the bugs for days. As soon as you go near them the jump off the plants into the soil
