In our first year allotmenting my friend planted 17 courgettes. Even after refusing to water and feed them all she was still left with an average of 30 a week for a while...

Her friends took to hiding from her.

Hehe we do eat about 5 a week sometimes more, and by the time I have made chutney from a few hundred we should be .......... Drowning in them.

Don't look at me, I think we have courgettes covered. Lol maybe I could sell them to tesco. I am sure I'll have enough to meet the demand

I have just sown 6 courgette seeds (Black Beauty and All green bush).

However I only intend to plant out 1 or maybe 2 of each variety.

BTW the seed packet suggested 1m between plants.

Yes, both of those are bush types so you don't have the option of growing them either sideways or upwards!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I've never managed to sow too many courgette seeds yet. ::) Courgettes are such a delight to eat fresh during the "summer" months and are readily preserved if there are too many. In fact, two of this year's three varieties are self-pollinating to ensure the best crop possible. :D

I have 9 plants ready to go out this week. They will be planted in plastic containers (about 1' x 1.5' and 1.5' deep), 1 to each container. Then I can move them about as needed but usually I just butt them up together in a line.

Really looking forward to some fresh courgettes again :)

Sinbamara - I have grown them in Smithy Patio Tubs - 50 X 39 cm very successfully - If you google it you will get more info. You can grow them in smaller containers but you would need to water them more often though. The tubs are expensive to start with but do last - 2/3 plants did our family... I now grow 4 plants at my allotment and get the inevitable glut! They do grow better in the ground - but if you don't have the space - I guess you already know that....
