One is the Wilkinson Sword, as far as I can tell from entering "swoe style hoe" in the search. The other is the Wolf Garten which at first appears a short handled tool but is part of their interchangeable range. As such both are long-handled tools and will perform the same job. The Wolf Garten will need the interchangeable handle purchased with it, but you could add to your range of tools with their attachments.

:)

Went to my local Homebase to see types of hoes under discussions here. They had neither Fiskar nor Wolf Garten/Wilkinson Sword hoes. From the photos, the Wolf Garten seems the best, but I guess one has to actually see all three physically.Any thoughts on the push and pull weeder ?
Thanks

For some reason, Amazon do not list the Joseph Bentley version, which I have, as a swoe:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I'm not sure where you'd be able to see a Wilkinson Sword for real, but I know some of the independent garden centres, such as The Dutch Nursery for one that I know, used to stock the Wolf Garten Range.

I have a Winged Weeder Jr and I love it! It's not large, but it sure does the job plus it etches nice little seed furrows for me, or run sideways it does wider furrows.

Agreed.
I have both widths of Wolf push/pull hoe. Tip - use a half round file to keep the blade razor sharp. Lethal to weeds, and no effort to use.

Joseph Bentley swoes are self-sharpening, and there's no need to keep taking a file to them. I'm not sure about the other bands.

If you have a Wyevale near you, it's worth checking to see if they have any offers, I got my last one for nothing in a BOGOF deal for garden club members.

My Swoe - actually was my dad's - is always in good use, and I swear by it! ('Swear by your Swoe' - a new advert...;0)

Just this week, we were given some hand tools by a friend who has given up his garden because of illness. In the bundle of immaculate tools, is a superb Dutch hoe, with the signature 'Elwells' written across the top. Elwells are well-known steel manufacturers in the midlands - or were...

It is smaller than your average Dutch hoe, and is as sharp as a knife.

It also was his dad's so must be over 80 years old! It has a shaped ash shaft and is a joy to use!

Growster, that sounds like the best kind of tool. They made things properly then.
Personally I never use a hoe, every weed is hand pulled with a daisy grubber, which I wouldn't be without. :)

What I liked about the Wilkinson Sword/Fiskars swoe was the long aluminium handle which made it really light and easy to use. We liked it so much we bought one for an elderly neighbour who had borrowed ours and really liked it. Its weight is ideal for someone who has less mobility. I saw one going cheap in TK Maxx.
