I've got just one spear poking through as of yesterday.

Depends on length of time in the ground, conditions of care over the winter and the weather of course.

Give it a bit longer ;)

I'm harvesting mine at home, but no show yet from the ones on the plot.  Only a mile or so apart, but the plot is less sheltered.

Did you mulch the bed over winter?  Does make a difference  :)

Have a dig down with you're hand, I bet they're on their way. Mine have only just come through in Newcastle and I know our winter was milder than yours.

I have just one plant out of twenty producing spears. Presumably the rest will wake up soon. You do start to wonder of they are still there. Lets hope so.

Mine started about three days ago and are in a very very sheltered spot  so dont panic. They'll sprout when they are ready. Dont forget that really late cold spell we had.

It's good to know that it's not just me.  There has been no show from mine yet either so I'll leave it a bit longer before I interfere.

I have just got back from the allotment having planted cabbage-there is no sign of any asparagus in my bed at all so I'm really glad I saw these posts.  We had some locally grown asparagus at the weekend and I have to say that the flavour was not as good as it could be.  Could this be because of all the rain last year or maybe to much watering now?

Mines coming through so much now that I've just given some to our next door neighbour.  However my plot neighbour whose asparagus was planted at the same time as mine many years go is not showing at all.  The differences between the two plots are:

- Mine was not cared for or manures at all during winter as I didn't get it with enough time to do anything to it before the bad weather. My plot drains well.  Mine was covered with weeds up until last month when I was finally able to get rid of them.
- His was cared for and manures properly and looks a hell of a lot better, just not showing but I don't doubt it will be good when it does show. His plot does seem to retain more water than mine. Weeds kept to a minimum.

Both are open to the elements, and are south facing plots. Both asparagus beds are in exactly the same position, and there is no more than a foot and a half grass path between them.
