A dwarf French bean question
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:21 »
I have had dwarf French beans in the past that have stayed at about 15 inches and needs no poles for support. The last time we tried our dwarf beans didn't seem very dwarf and grew to 4 foot and needed bamboo canes to climb.

This year we have nautica dwarf French beans, we have never tried these before so my question is anyone know if we are going to end up with dwarf plants that stay dwarf or plants that will give the runners a run for their money. Just trying to work out what they need when they go out. Hope that all made sense.

I don't know the answer sorry bq, but thought I'd ask a question in a dwarf bean related thread. Hope you don't mind.

How long do they normally take to germinate?  I sowed some in pots 2 weeks ago and nothing yet, they were new seeds too not my usual "see if last year (or years before) will work".
first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is

My seed packet claims 7-14 days, so it may be worth hanging on a little while longer. You could try digging up one of the beans to check if they have sprouted or rotted.

I've just sown mine today in modules (rolled up newspaper) so hopefully they will be coming through before the next bank holiday.

Nicky's says 50cm - 60cm so they should be ok without canes.

Brilliant I'll stop looking for new canes then
