Got ourselves a cherry tree....
« on: May 05, 2013, 15:03 »

It's around 4ft tall at the moment and in a 10 inch pot.

We're wanting to plant it direct into the garden (home), but we get bindweed creeping in from next door, so don't want that any further into the garden, so thought it would be safer keeping it in a pot.

Is it ok to plant it into a bigger pot (what size is best), and then partially sink that into the ground so we can then maybe screw some decorative edging to the pot to match the other edging we already have?

How would planting the cherry encourage bindweed?

Just give it a gentle glyphosating e'r now and again. The bindweed. Not the cherry  :tongue2:

Every time we plant anything along the fence, with the ground being 'worked' the bindweed seems to take advantage of the loose easy soil etc.  >:(

Once the cherry is planted, you can easily glyphosate the bindweed without affecting the tree.

I think putting the tree in a pot will effectively bonsai it, leading to stunted growth, reduced nutrient access, and probably poorer watering.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
