I think I have some earlies showing... or they could just be weeds  Can anyone explain how to earth up please in really simple terms? I've never done this before!

Pile earth over the top of the row so you can't see them again, that's simple. You will end up with a row of mini hills  :D

Last year I cut down the foliage due to blight and covered the spud patch in D.P.M. (Damp Proof Membrane)On stripping it back this week, I see I have some young spud shoots.  I'll let you know how they are (if they survive).

Cheers,   Tony.

Do you mean right over the tops of the leaves? Do I leave any showing?

Those spuds still in the ground could be harbouring blight spores if your patch was blighted. The new growth as a result could then be a source of blight.

Lots of mine showing, some up to 6". Mind you, these are all volunteers.
Have not planted spuds for 2 years but still get plenty.
How come the frost never seems to bother volunteers? or is it a sign of a sheltered site?

Frost will only damage the tubers if it reaches the depth they are hiding at (some probably do rot away but you wouldn't notice because you didn't know they were there in the first place!)

Frost will definitely nobble the foliage but again, I doubt very much whether you're watching volunteers as carefully as your proper crop.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

as long as there's frost, there's earthing up.

If you run out of earth use grass cuttings, fleece, old curtains etc - even newspapers - when a frost is forecast!
