Water storing crystals

 I know you can use water storing crystals with flowers, but is it safe to use them with vegetables. :unsure:
I need a way of keeping the greenhouse vegetables moist just in case I'm not able to get to the lottie, any ideas .:mellow:

I find that the capillary matting (with a plastic sheet under it) dipped into a reservoir of water works well.  Just sit all the trays/pots on it.  When I do get up I make sure to water all the pots/trays, give the matting a good soak and fill the reservoir - at this time of year that allows me to only go up every three or four day or so, later in the 'summer' it means that I can miss a day or two and not need to worry.
