courgettes and squash
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:56 »
Planted some of these in propagators a couple of weeks ago and only a few have come up. Any thoughts why? I think possibly I let the soil dry out. Should it be properly soaked?

Mine have had mixed results but they are in a cold frame, they were planted on the 18th march and some are only just appearing now, I think they thought it wAs too cold

You should not let the soil dry out, this could kill off a seed that has started to germinate.

Having said that, squash can be very slow to germinate. Is it the courgettes that's come through?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I think letting the soil dry out is the mistake I made, got 2 squash and 1 courgette from 6 of each

Have sowed some more now...

Thanks

I've had really bad germination from courgettes this year. The squash are all fine, but half the courgettes failed. Probably a good thing given the lack of space on the windowsill.  :)

My Courgettes & Squashes are still in the packet & I wont be sowing them until the middle of May.

Although of all the Squashes, Pumpkins, Green Beans and Runners I find Courgettes to be the most 'cold hardy'
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.
