Adding Manure post sowing seeds.
« on: April 29, 2013, 10:58 »
I did something silly this weekend.  After getting my plot ready for sowing seeds and being excited about the prospect of getting some seeds into the ground (finally), I forgot to mix some manure into the sections that would require it - like the beans...

Will it do any good (or harm?) if I use some of the manure to mulch instead and try to lightly rake it in without disturbing the seeds I've just sown? Or would a liquid feed be better now?  Or both?  We just got a fresh or well rotted, depending on how you look at it, batch of horse manure, so I was going to use this.

Luckily I've still got time to do some of the other beds for squashes etc, but I was just too excited to start sowing some seeds in the ground!

It would work well as a mulch for beans and potatoes.

I certainly wouldn't put it near seedlings......let them grow on and then mulch between them when they're bigger, as long as it is well rotted.

As already said, potatoes would love it  :)
