New potatoes in pots in a greenhouse...
« on: April 25, 2013, 22:30 »
As is the norm nearly everywhere, we despaired at getting spuds in, and so we planted nine Lady Christl in three big pots - 12", in the frost-free greenhouse on 15th March.

They've produced shoots which are now over the top of the pots, which are now full of compost, after a few re-coverings.

Does the team think that this is going to produce spuds by - say - the end of May, or do we expect a 'furtle' in June?

Bearing in mind that they had snow in Jersey when they should be growing spuds, no doubt they'll be hellish expensive, and I'd prefer Growster Royals if we can jump the gun...

I planted 3 in each of my 2 x 35L tubs and 2 in a 'flower bucket' pot on 6th March.
I'm not expecting anything before the beginning of June tbh because they were so cold in March, even in the greenhouse - but may furtle the smallest pot a little earlier

Mums! A little 'furtle' goes a long, long way these days, and so I will treasure your advice - as always...;0)

My big chum, sadly left this mortal coil now, said that he would 'slaughter', his first row - 90', long, to get the small spuds he felt were worth 'furtling'!

I even think that we may just do that with the Lady Cristl, so she'd better be ready...;0)
