I wish I lived in Devon  :D

They say up here "ne'er cast a clout til May be out"  Roughly translated that means don't plant your courgettes too soon  :)

That's the thing - it is nearly May!
Times getting on and I feel my planting is too far behind.
My allotment has never looked so empty this time of year!

I think that saying relates to the May tree rather than the month of May.

Anyhow, I bought my courgette seeds, I think somone on here reccomended the Lidl round ones so that is what I got today (the last packet!!).  Going to plant at the weekend.

Hannah :)

I sowed one on the 13/3 which I've been leaving in the greenhouse at nights since Monday, cos it's now in a big tub.
The first test will be this coming coldsnap - I'll quickly find out if it got too cold  ::) Fingers crossed!

Mine have been in for yolks but the first one is just starting to get true leaves. For some stupid reason my husband sowed the lot, totalling 28 plants, he loves courgettes but even he will regret that many  ???

I wish someone would tell him that, plus they are filling up my cold frame space.

It's my first year growing courgettes as well. Being a bit too eager, I did mine along with my tomatoes in mid March  didn't realise they grew so fast! But luckily I have a conservatory so they're ok till the weather improves.

Mine have flower buds on them :)

They're still going in and out every day at the moment, but as soon as the forecast stops muttering about overnight frosts I'll be whacking them into the polytunnel beds. And no, I'm not worried about pollination because they're Parthenons. Though I have to say I've already chucked my first cabbage white out of the tunnel.

Wow shokkyy - how early did you plant yours??

I have planted a variety especially for the flowers this year too - love stuffed, fried zucchini flowers

I sowed them on 10th March. I've only just sowed my One Ball seeds though, because those grow incredibly fast and get very leggy if I try to start them early. I want the Parthenon as early as possible because I can stick those in my polytunnel earlier than I could risk them outside, and they don't need the insects to pollinate them.

I wish my polytunnel had survived! :(

I'm still waiting for my courgettes to pop through the soil.
The cukes came up today in all the sunshine though! :)

Oh this post makes me feel so much better - I swed my squashes and courgettes yesterday - the plant buyers on my allotment have already put theirs in and I noticed some quite large plants for sale at the market yesterday which was very tempting but its cheating!
