Poorly shallots?
« on: April 21, 2013, 21:03 »
Noticed today my autumn planted shallots have rather yellow leaves....they appear to be growing but dont look at all right. Any ideas, perhaps just a result of the soggy, freezing winter, but will they be ok?

If they are yellow just at the tips I wouldn't worry about it - a liquid feed might cheer them up a bit.

Yellow all the way down would be of considerably more concern - hopefully that's not the case with yours.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Try a little feed like Jay said.

Nitrogen based would be good, maybe suplhate of amonia to perk them up and get the foliage going and green again.
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Don't want to worry you but mine went like that last year. Came through the new year looking really healthy then went yellow and rotted off. Couldn't find any sign of disease so put it down to being too damp. I have made a point of incorporating sand into the planting area this year. Also sitting them on a slight ridge. Looking good so far.
