Adding organic matter to carrot soil?
« on: April 17, 2013, 17:29 »
Got a few books on vegetable growing etc and regarding growing carrots, some of the books say not to add organic matter to the soil and some say they (the carrots) prefer it when you add it to the soil. Which is it?  Carrots are one of the only things I've never had a successful crop of due to my heavy clay soil so want to make sure they do well this year. Using lots of sharp sand etc in raised beds this year. Any help appreciated.

                             Cheers.

Organic matter tends to have lumps in, making the carrots fork  ;)

If you've added sand - a little BF&B is all that's needed  :)
