« on: April 15, 2013, 21:53 »
Hi
Can anyone suggest a fertiliser to help peas and beans this year as I haven't had time to manure the new allotment

Thanks

Don't.

Or at least not one high in nitrogen as you'll get leaf, not peas or beans.

The most important thing for peas is a soil with high humus content, so if you've got some home-made compost to hand, that will help. The last thing to do with peas is throw a lot of fertiliser at them.

Welcome to the forums, by the way!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Wood ash does not contain nitrogen, nor does bone meal.

I use tomato fertiliser to encourage flowering - when the time is right for flowering, of course.
