Does anyone put fish blood and bone down with their potato's? I was wondering if it might be a bit strong for them?

Hmm, I will be keeping an eye on this thread and the responses.

I am intending on sprinkling a little when planting my spuds as I watched a YouTube video of a chap doing the same  and he appeared to know what he was talking about.

Last time I tried it I spent several days retrieving and replanting seed spuds which had been propelled at high velocity all over the garden (dug up by frantic foxes which had failed to find the prize apparently offered by the smell of the BFB!) 

(If there were no foxes round here I would use it though, and not just on spuds.)

I had decent results with FB&B until the foxes started digging up the allotments.

I now get potato fertiliser from ebay

I've stuck a good old sprinkling of it down my trenches prior to putting my spuds in, probably after seeing the same video as the original poster! I had put some well rotted horse manure down around about the start of February I'd guess, but it was a very thin scattering (about a shovel full every square yard) so I wanted to give my spuds a bit of a treat.

Thanks for all the replies. We do have a family of foxes on site so I'm going to put some FBB down tomorow on some empty ground, rake it in and see if they go for it. At least they won't damage any crops if they do.

I wouldn't on the allotment due to foxes, but I will be in the garden.

If you do it in a long row they might dig your spud trench for you

I have had similar fox problems with chicken poo fertiliser.  Foxes have dug up a good proportion of my onion sets as a result.

I have had problems with pelleted chicken poo too, which is why I chuck netting loosely over anything newly planted out where I have used it - it seems to lose its attraction (and pong!) after a few days, especially if it's rained.

Foxes do seem to learn quite quickly that dried chicken poo isn't quite up to their culinary expectations, but never seemed to quite get the message when it came to BFB.

I have a problem with foxes and BFB at home but not at the allotment.  This year I'm trying the Garden Organic version that does not have the fish part (hoof and horn instead I think).  I doubt it'll make any difference but you never know.
