anything will grow in it - it just doesn't make a very good seed bed, that's all  ;)

If you need to sow anything direct, just pull a v trench with your hoe, fill with multi purp compost, and sow into that  ;)

Hi I am new to this but, last year I Constructed a couple of raised beds, ( not allotment but big Veg patch in back garden) local farmer drop by for another matter looked at my clay and said nothing will grow, he dropped of a load of well rotted manure, I dig over the clay left in lump, spread the muck over the top and left until this spring, appears the weather, muck and worms have been doing the work for me, still not fantastic but much more workable, end of the year will do the same again. ( manure free and delivered to the door). . I cover one bed with black plastic last year after covering with muck not opened that one up, just thought I try it and see the difference.

Dull note

PS it is hard work turning the clay over the first time, but this spring a lot easier
