Mrs Doubtfire RIP
« on: April 05, 2013, 19:48 »
Sad news in the coop today.  Mrs Doubtfire, my 10 year old Vorwark bantam, was dead in the run when I got home today.

She came out fine this morning, eager as ever for her breakfast.  She was in one of her favourite sun bathing spots and looked very peaceful.  I hope she just sat down in the sun for a nap and never woke up.

Here she is on one of her garden foraging trips.  She loved these right to the end  :)

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs Doubtfire - it is always difficult to lose a hen especially one that you have had so long.

Thanks all  :)

Had a bit of a tough day at work yesterday, so was the last thing I needed when I got home.  The rest of the flock were far more matter of fact and were ignoring her and demanding corn  ::)

She had a good long life and was fit and happy to the end.  Can't be bad  :)

Thanks again  :)

Mrs D was coop matriarch for a long time, so she was very much the boss.  She's taken a more background role the last few years, but no-one messed with her  ;)  She still 'crowed' in the coop most mornings before she was let out.  Heard her just the other day, so she was fighting fit to the last.

She was always stand-offish and looked at me with total distain most of the time   Glad she went quickly and peacefully in her own time  :)

Am sorry to hear about Mrs Doubtfire  :( though she was a great age and thankfully went quickly without suffering.

Happened to be showing OH the suburban bantie cockerel diaries yesterday and noticed Foghorn gives her a mention in 1 of the earliest entries.

RIP Mrs Doubtfire
Helen
