Potting on sprouts
« on: April 03, 2013, 15:29 »
Afternoon all.
I potted on my bosworth sprouts into 3in pots today. I sowed them indoors then moved outside into little greenhouse when they 'sprouted'. I planted them deeper than they were, some of them have the seed leaves under the soil as I seem to remember reading that this wont harm them. However, after 90 minutes searching, I cannot find the information. Did I completely imagine that you can plant them deeper than the seed leaves? Should I lift them up a bit?
The plants are really healthy looking and I'm proud of them

They'll be fine as they are.

Most plants benefit from potting a bit deeper, one of the notable exceptions being cucumbers.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I always plant brassicas upto the first set of true leaves. When planting out I'll usually nip the seed leaves off and put them in the bottom of the planting hole (random superstition) then plant them as deep as poss. None of the brassicas appreciate being rocked about by wind etc etc, so deeper is better!

Cucumbers don't like to benefit from anything!
