2nd post, I did warn the questions would be coming.
This under cover cockerel my daughter has Red Devil , how long before he starts to look like a cock, he is a red orpington. Poor little Fluff gets squashed every time he sees her, she was trying to sit on a pile of eggs but we have now left her with just 4 which we have marked so we know which are which, yes I know very newbie-ish but it works.
When is he likely to start crowing.??

Sometimes they don't crow if there is an established cockerel in the flock.

My young cockerels have usually started to crow around 12 to 16 weeks old.

Hi I'm a newbie too, at least to this site. :) I've had two cocks that were more than 6 months old before saying anything. ;) Big breeds (mine were New Hampshire) takes longer to "grow up".  :)

He is certainly at least  6months old, but not sure exactly what age as it was 1 of the 4 given to my daughter by her neighbour when she got bored.

Is it definetely a cockerel and not just a very bossy female. Im only asking as if you know hes over 6 months I would have thought he would look like a cockerel  ??? Do you have any pictures?  Just a thought anyway  :)

I asked my daughter if " IT " could be a Lesbihen, as it looks like the other Orpington except different colour.
Poor Fluff ( silkie ) thinks its a cockerel as she has now gone broody we have cracked some of the eggs they have a white dot in the yolk and one had a blood spot in yolk. I suppose time will tell.

2 Questions 1 answer.

It has been confirmed the Red Devil is a cock a friend has looked at it this morning I didnt know our friend used to keep poultry.
So you could have all had a lucky escape. :lol:
