Limed at the wrong time
« on: March 24, 2013, 17:47 »
I've been worried about our allotment being acidic and have just chucked a sprinkling of lime on four of the beds.
I've just read that this should have been done last autrumn. Can I plant this year? Or is there some way I can neutralise this if I've made a huge mistake. Drat !!!!
Still glowing, still growing, still going strong!

Wouldn't worry about it.

I lime as I plant.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Just rake it in it'll be fine. I only did mine two weeks ago and it's still sitting on top of the soil.

I always lime when I'm planting my brassicas, and they turn out wonderfully, even last year with all that ghastly weather.

It'll be fine.

I have limed my Brassica Beds at three different times. One year I did it in the Autumn, another year I did it around March and another year I limed as I planted.

My best crops were the year Limed as I planted.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Try not to put spud's in those limed bed's. They may get scab.
