I planted some carrot and beetroot last weekend and put a cloche over, probably collapsed under all the snow now.

Even in a good year, my carrots etc. don't see the ground until April. It may be warm above, but the critical temperature is below. It's going to be a few weeks yet.

By the way plants get planted - seeds get sown!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My plot soil is fairly heavy, so as well as the lack of warmth in it, it is sodden with all the winter rain.  Snow melt this weekend will not have helped  ::) I'd agree it may be towards the end of April this year before much gets done.

To be honest, if the weather and soil are not right, stuff sits and sulks, while your later sowings can romp away and overtake them

Yeah I've sown tomatoes, chilli's and outdoor cu's on the windowsill, did lettuce too but it's flopped lol

I've also got toms and outdoor cu's on the windowsill. They're coming along well, but I've probably jumped the gun as always.

I've told Brian that I'm going to get a plastic greenhouse and put it just inside the patio doors in the lounge!    ;)

You can imagine the face on him!

ive risked a few seeds direct sown either under cloches or unprotected...missing presumed dead i think!! radishes are up, might be ready in about 3 months the speed they are growing ::)

i dont worry about it, a small sowing of carrot or beetroot seed wont break the bank and you never know.

however the onions lettuce and beetroot i grew in loo rolls and planted out under cloches seem fine..not growing much yet

It's just so unpredictable at the moment, but according to www.accuweather.com there is light at the end of the tunnel and temps are meant to go above double figures and stay there from about 3rd April onwards.....

If it wasn't for the high pressure sitting over Scandinavia dragging in that cold air from Siberia, I can imagine it getting warm very quick if the sun came out.  We can hope  :D

Not outdoors as there's still snow and -C temperatures but I did sow some sprouts, cabbage, marigolds, carrots and peas into toilet roll tubes in my unheated conservatory over the weekend.  Got my fingers crossed I they will germinate and the ground warms up enough to prepare so I can plant them out before they get too big.  Very little of my veg matured last year so getting a head start seemed like a good (nooby?) choice.  Like others said tho, plenty more seeds in the packets so don't mind if its a complete failure.

Oh, blimey, that is three weeks away. I'm going back to bed to hibernate until then. Someone give me an alarm call in three weeks. I've had enough.

I make that just over a week, if you hibernate for 3 weeks, you'll miss it!
