I have grown tumbling tom in baskets the last two years with good results, however they do dry out very quickly, help to combat this by placing one of the plastic pot dishes in the bottom of the basket before filling with compost. Tried this last year seemed to work well. :)

Optimism probably a gardeners best tool.

I grew toms in baskets for several years before I got my plot. I used a variety called Tumbler. Two plants to a 14" basket, keep them well watered, and feed once per week after they have started flowering. I had some really great crops from them.

I've not tried in basked but have found in pots works well. I like the plastic pot idea

I grow Gartenperle in baskets every year and normally have a very good crop from them. I do find they need a big basket though, think mine are 16". With the smaller baskets they very quickly run out of food and water.

Mine are either 16 or 18inch I think - pointy triangular ones that I got from Greenfingers for 3.99 each - bargain! ;)
Should be big enough for 1 plant each I reckon :)

Yes, I do one plant per basket and they do very well. Last year was a very bad year for tomatoes generally, but the year before that I had 3 Gartenperle in baskets and between them they produced a ridiculous amount of tomatoes. We were eating them for a very long time, as well as giving them away, cooking with them, and put a lot in the freezer too.
