Storing Onion Sets
« on: March 06, 2013, 08:35 »
I have just received my onion sets but I haven’t yet sufficiently cleared the allotment. What is the best way to store them? They are in brown paper bags but should they be kept in the dark cool dry place or……? I will be able to plant then in about two weeks time.

I keep them in a dark cool dry place and have not had any problems yet. I do check them on a regular basis however. I'll be looking to plant them out in another 3 to 4 weeks.

Not sure what you mean by spot on, when he's asking a question!

should they be kept in the dark cool dry place or……?

A light cool place is best, if they do try to shoot, they won't get drawn searching for light. You could even pop them in a tray of compost to let the roots get a head start.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Cool and light, just like storing onions. I store mine in an unheated conservatory. No frost but fridge temp most of the winter.
