Always being short of time, I simply direct seeded mine in the garden and watered them every 2 days until they sprouted. (we had a very dry spring & summer)

I grow them several times a year. I use Leo peas bought from ASDA and they are lovely in salads.

I started out growing them for the peas but planted lots more so I'd have seeds just for indoor winter sprouting as well.

I don't think I'll be following the instructions on the packet. It say's to boil for 20mins. That'll never do.

On another tangent, I have some black peas, (also called parched peas or maple peas, from a traditional Lancashire dish served often on or around Bonfire Night (5 November). The dish, popular in Rochdale, Oldham, Wigan, Bury and Bolton, is made from the purple podded pea  which is long soaked overnight and simmered to produce a type of mushy pea) which I will be growing this year.

Don't forget that you may be able to get chick peas to grow like this as well, and you can also eat the seed when you crop them!
