I put a couple of pots int he greenhouse last night, not something I've done before, so more of a trial for me.

It'll probably be the end of the month before mine are planted out.

As many frosts in May as fogs in March - that is the old saying.

Foggy day here.

Three weeks ago I selected a dozen earlies (lady Christl)left over from last years crop and planted them in 6" pots and put them in the conservatory.Their chits were over 1" long. I am now in the process of transferring them into 12" pots with compost in the bottom and poultry manure  mixed in the soil. Some of the plants are over 4" tall. I have never done this before so i don't know how things will turn out, but as things are now I am well ahead of the game. The seed I have bought for this year still have very small chits.

Just checked my chitting spuds now. They've been chitting for nearly three weeks, and all of them (1st, 2nd and maincrop) have between 1/4 and 1/2 inch chits. I'm guessing (hoping)another couple of weeks and they'll be ready to plant, just as the weather starts getting better.
I may be Welsh, but I love ewe anyway!

Even in Cornwall it seems the temperatures are set to deep drastically this week so I am glad my potatoes are still in the garage chitting. My plot neighbours have mostly planted out now and I was hoping to follow suit but not yet a while. I'm a Midlander at heart.

We're thinking of doing these today, Mums.

I reckon a big pot, with some more plastic (thick) sheet plonked round the rim to raise it a bit higher, but hopefully, a May result will make it worth the effort!

Do you reckon three Lady Cs will be OK for a 12" pot?

I've got 3 Arran Pilots to a 12" pot.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

A couple of weeks in the shed window now and still not a sign of a chit on any of them yet.  I wonder if I should move them somewhere where there is less light?

Not unless you want long, white, spindly chits. 2 weeks is not that long, mine have been going almost 2 months and some are only just showing signs.

My earlies are all chitting nicely with small dark shoots coming through.  However, my mains are showing nowt.  Can the mains go in without chitting?
