i am growing toms in pots instead of growbags this year,what would i have to put in pots eg just compost,compost mixed with soil etc do i need to put gravel in pots for drainage,thanks.

I use compost from growbags for those I'm not growing direct in the soil.

Tomatoes are greedy so I would use JI No 2, or a similar mix of rich compost & soil.

They also need a lot of water which is why one method is to stand pots on gravel or sand so the drinking roots can go out the bottom of the pot, So while they wont like standing in water, they wont want to dry out either.

Get a pot at least a foot tall and as much square (look for the Stewart self watering balconiers in Aldi) Plant the Tom in the bottom covering with compost up to at lease the 1st set of leaves. As the toms grow you can continue to top up the pots. They will then put out  more roots from the stem
