Chillies poking through
« on: February 26, 2013, 15:17 »
First chilli seedlings of the season poked through yesterday. I still get excited about this even though I know I won't get anything off them for 6 months #Justsaying :)

Mine aren't. But given that I planted them yesterday evening I'm not surprised  :)

Neither are mine, despite the fact I check them everyday!!  I think it's been just over a week now, but I still get quite excited.  :D

There is something about seeds poking through  :). My poor Mum has a running commentary via text message each morning and evening about what is showing !

Some of mine are still flowering from last year, I think I have managed to nurse one of each through this year.

Do you sow them indoors, a cold green house or heated one?

Thanks

I would say indoors definitely, preferably in a heated propagator. chillis like tomatoes need heat to germinate.

I put some seeds in wet kitchen roll on top of the boiler about 4 weeks ago they soon sprouted and I now have 4 leaved seedlings about an inch high

I sow mine indoors on a windowsill above a radiator, seems to work so why change it. Another couple poked through this morning that's 6 out of 40. Worringly all six of the same variety. I am just hoping the others are slow starters.
