Just checked speedwell, I think that's it, but a very tiny version.  When you touch it all the tiny blue petals fall like confetti for bugs.

I think I've got a few Shepherds purses too - that's the one with the really deep root - is it mainly deep-rooted weeds that host clubroot MK?

All deep rooted weeds carry some thing you don't want to spread.
so its always best to get rid ASAP.

I've got SO much to learn.
Not too long ago I thought the only reason that people didn't like weeds in their gardens was because it spoiled the look of the flower display...

Shamefully, I do not know the English name of many wild flowers or weeds (another thing to brush up on), but I think I know the plant you mean as our lotties are full of a similar thing.

It does not look like the flower in the picture at all, lighter blue with witish marking on the base of the petals, which are about 5-6 or more?, quite like forget-me-nots, really, very tiny, creeping, shallow rooted things, easy to pull up.

Even though it multiplies and seeds at a rate :!: , would be one of my favourite weeds to have, not a problem , really. I hope you have this one, Sweet.

Persian Speedwell Veronica persica is the commonest species, introduced into Britain and grows as a weed in lawns and bare soil. Most likely that's the one you've got. There are a few others too, ivy leaved speedwell, field speedwell, thyme leaved speedwell, all small and creeping weeds. Brooklime is different, quite a big plant like mint, growing in wet places. It has the coolest name Veronica beccabunga 8)

Sounds like that's the one Gobs, it's never bothered me too much but it makes me look like a bad gardener so I'm ruthles and take it out.

Does anyone know whether they take a lot of nutrients for the soil (you can guess I'm hoping I can call it a green manure)?

Might as well call it green manure, what else would we do with them?

In fact, if you bag weeds and let it rot first, once unrecognisable, all of them can be composted.

I had a look in my book the flowers of mine def look like some sort of forget-me-not, would have not thought they were called that!

On subject of green manure, I wonder if there are any weeds that put nutrients into the ground, like beans do? :?:
