I would agree that this is high but with new shed, water butt and compost bin there is obviously an investment undertaken here (are they private?). I wouldn't think it hugely unreasonable given the strength of the 'market' - how much value would we all actually place on our plots? Mine is worth hundreds of pounds to me in terms of the enjoyment and health I get from it - but don't tell my association or the Council!

I agree with what sav has written!
For what its worth, we pay £54.50 for a full plot and £38.00 half plot, all with water from march till october.

Like others have asked, I'd be interested to know if it comes with free deliveries of stuff, along with the free brand spanking new shed it could well be worth the seemingly big layout.

My new plot is very cheap per year, but no shed and ill have to get one and manure (a small amount) only delivered once a year, you've got to be blooming quick to get some.
first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is

If it's that much money for the first year only, to cover the cost of the shed, then it's not too bad. It depends how much a year it is afterwards. If it's that much a year, every year, then either you've got yourself a small farm, or somebody's on the make!

hi guys am new on here. but £250 for a allotment is a joke.you will never get you money out of it. my local authority charge £28.75 for 5 rods that waltham forest.try your local authority but may have a long waiting list my has over 1000 on it.and now will not put any new names on the list.or go to a local authority site see the secretary to see if you can share a plot with some one paul

If you work it out weekly then £5 a week is probably less than you spend on veg a week but....

Also my plot needed a shed which set me back £200 not including the locks, bolts handles etc. the composter I want to replace my makeshift one  is £40, fencing is looking expensive, not sure what a water butt would cost but I guess I can see why they want to charge so much

You have to consider how much you will get out of the plot, will you get £250 worth of veg? £250 of exercise, of fresh air, of socialising and chatting with your neighbours....

Compared to other allotments its expensive ... But we rent a car garage over the road from our house for £20 a month and get a lot less from it than you will from a plot

You never know it might be enormous and have 24hr rabbit surveillance teams :)

I had exactly the same conversation today with someone I met on the allotment. Ours are private land, some allow you to dig for free, I am going to pay £10 a month... however imagine wasting 3 hours at a gym instead of digging for 3 hours, lungfulls of fresh air and exercise and a widelife tour as well!
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)
