Garlic
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:54 »
Hi All,

My garlic (early purple wight) is well and truely growing away, however, most of the plants are growing doubles or trebles!

I planted single cloves but I guess some of them had started splitting inside but not yet broken apart.  This often happen to one or two plants and I just leave them an get smaller bulbs.  Since this has happened to so many this year I was thinking whether it would be a good idea to dig them up, separate and replant.  Has anybody and experience with this or suggections?

Thanks
Chris

I've often done this myself, carefully digging up the whole clump so as not to break off rootlets, carefully separating them, then replanting. They're a very tough plant and will bounce back. The less root damage you do, the faster and bigger they recover.
